HEAVEN IN YOUR EYES |How People See Jesus in You

My 4-year-old granddaughter runs like the wind, but she’ll stop on a dime to have a deep conversation.

She’s not the oldest, but not the baby either. She lives in the middle, wanting to be big—clearing the breakfast table one minute, yet longing to be small—hopping in the baby stroller the next.

Grandma understands.

I go back and forth between who I was and who I want to be, wondering if I’ll ever get there.

The other day we discovered that the best way to get anywhere is to stop, lie down, and watch the clouds float by.

“God’s old. Older than you,” she informed me. “That’s why He’s in Heaven.”

This little one has seen too many empty chairs around the family table. Too many people have disappeared into the clouds and not come back.

“You’re probably going to Heaven before me, because you’re older,” she said. “But you’d miss my birthday party.”

That thought wrecked me.

“Oh honey, I wouldn’t miss your birthday for anything.”

“Is there a window up there so you can see?”

“Yes. I believe so. We can’t see Heaven now, but God sees us. He gives us little windows into Heaven every day. Little glimpses of His glory.”

“Glory?”

“I see glory when I look at you. I see Jesus in your beautiful blue eyes. Glory in your momma, daddy, and sisters.”

In one ninja-like move, she pinned me down with her little hands, still sticky with breakfast syrup.

Her forehead pressed into mine. Her wild, untamed hair fell around me like a veil, pierced by the September sun.

Staring deep into my soul, she whispered one solemn request.

“I want to see Heaven in your eyes.”

Life is short, but some moments echo with eternity.

That’s what the next generation longs to see in this broken world.

Not accomplishments. Not right answers. Not perfection.

But a glimpse of hope that leads upward.

That window to glory is in you and me.

“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27)

Heaven in our eyes.

Caught between who we were and who we want to be, it seems we’ll never get there.

But lie beneath the clouds and remember this:

God is older than you.

The Ancient of Days has never missed a single one of your birthday parties.

He has so many gifts waiting for you.

Brand-new mercies every morning.

Strength for this afternoon.

A good and perfect plan for tomorrow.

Resurrection power in the moment. Resurrection life that outlives this one.

So, run free like the wind.

But don’t forget to stop on a dime for a deep conversation with your Savior.

Stare into His eyes. Think about His love. Feel the gentle breeze.

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

(2 Corinthians 3:18)

Little by little. Glory to glory. Our hearts will be renewed.

Our lives will be transformed.

Yes, there are windows in Heaven.

And you and I are windows here on earth.

Lord Jesus, let the ones we love see Heaven in our eyes.
