LOVE ALWAYS KNOCKS

The doorbell rang. I froze in my slippers, then slowly retreated into the shadows.

I was too afraid to answer.

Some days, it’s hard to let people in.

My house looked together, but I was a mess.

Something had happened that day that tore me apart. It felt like I’d failed as a Christian, a mother, and a wife.

What could anyone possibly want at this late hour?

I had nothing left to give them.

The doorbell rang again, followed by a gentle, persistent knock.

Please, God, let them go away.

I yanked the door open, ready to face an intruder. Instead, I greeted a friend.

“Sally?”

Her smile was as gentle as the single white carnation she held out—not a demand, but an offer.

Before I could ask, she told me why she had left her family to drive crosstown at such a cold, dark hour.

“Jesus told me to.”

Her heart couldn’t rest until she delivered God’s urgent message.

I’m here. You’re not alone. Whatever you need.

Beauty for ashes.

A way in the wilderness.

Hope and a future.

Without another word, she pressed the bloom into my hand, kissed my cheek, and left.

I watched her taillights fade, holding proof of something broken believers often forget.

Jesus still knocks on our hearts today.

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Revelation 3:20

Jesus isn’t an intruder. He comes in peace, arriving on our doorstep as a beloved, trusted Friend.

Jesus delivered this kind invitation to the church of Laodicea, to Christians who already knew Him.

It appears that these believers treated Jesus more like the pizza delivery man than the Lord.

Sometimes, we do, too.

We open the door a crack, grab the goods, say, “Thanks!” Then we quietly turn the deadbolt back in place.

We keep our relationship transactional because we fear letting Jesus come all the way in.

We choose the mess over the Messenger, afraid of what He wants to change.

But when Someone would rather die than live without you, His heart is already yours.

And every cell of your soul is fully loved and rightfully His.

Jesus holds the keys to your heart, and yet He still knocks.

He still calls.

He still speaks.

Love never demands; love waits until you’re ready to receive what He offers.

Light in the darkness.

Help for the hopeless.

Unwavering truth to demolish every lie.

Jesus invites you to trust Him with gentle, persistent taps and a kind, familiar voice.

There’s no need to fear. When you finally open up, prepare to be surprised.

Letting Jesus in will transform your life.

Our mess isn’t too messy. Our sin isn’t too entrenched. Our situation isn’t too dire for His unfailing love and resurrection power.

When we open the door to Jesus, we find our Savior, our Lord, and our Friend.
