HOW TO LIVE IN THE MOMENT
“You know your aunt’s helpless, right?”
I drop the gauze and awkward nurse persona with a shrug.
Death waits like a thief outside my nephew Taeler’s door, and there isn’t a thing either of us can do about it.
Still, we have to keep living.
I sort through the carry-out containers, humming a little Gospel tune. I’ve got a knack for knowing what to keep and what to throw away.
It’s a little jab at the darkness, but it’s a win in the big picture.
Little wins matter, because from the day we’re born, we’re all fighting for our lives.
Not the life we deserve, but the life God meant for us.
Our days are already numbered on Heaven’s calendar. It’s up to us how we live them.
Every day, we have a choice.
“This day… I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now, choose life.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
My nephew has a knack for seeing the good, so he helps me choose.
Gripping the arms of the chair, he pulls himself forward with great effort, his eyes intent on mine so I get the message loud and clear.
“You’re not helpLESS. You’re helpFULL.”
He helps me see the difference between LESS and FULL because he chose life when he chose to get out of bed.
When we choose to receive Jesus, we choose life.
God turns our LESS to FULL.
HopeLESS to HopeFULL
ThankLESS to ThankFULL
MeaningLESS to MeaningFULL
It’s more than a four-letter difference. It rewrites our entire story. Until the last page, each word and breath has a purpose.
We speak life. We exhale love. We live full and glorify the Lord who made us.
But there’s a thief of discouragement waiting to steal our moments, pointing out that life’s slipping through our fingers.
So, we hold fast to what God says is true.
In John 10:10, Jesus shows us how to tell the difference between the thief who takes and the God Who gives.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
The devil wants to take everything God’s given us.
A liar and a thief from the beginning, he wants us to live with LESS:
WreckLESS, FaithLESS, CareLESS.
But you’re made for so much more.
God withholds no good thing from you, His child. That’s why He sent His best—Jesus, His only Son.
God’s FULLness dwells in Jesus, and that’s Who He wants for you.
Jesus is faithFULL, so you can live FULL:
JoyFULL, MindFULL, ThoughtFULL.
You’re no longer helpLESS.
You are FULL of God’s Spirit, so you have His power to choose.
Yes, life is short, but we can do something about it today.
We won’t settle for LESS.
We choose to live FULL.
