HITTING THE SAME POTHOLE? (AGAIN) |Let Jesus Take the Wheel

“See that pothole up ahead?”

The driving instructor pointed to a speck in the distance. “Don’t hit it.”

Suddenly, I was laser-focused on the obstacle I was told to avoid.

White-knuckling the steering wheel, I punched the accelerator, barreling toward the inevitable.

“Don’t hit the—!” The tire hit the mark at such high speed, it moved the man’s toupee.

I hung my head while the teacher flipped his lid.

“You’re the WORST driver I’ve ever seen!”

I began to learn then what I’m still learning now.

Jesus doesn’t take the wheel unless we ask Him to.

Instead, we like to be in charge and think we can steer clear of sin by fixating on the very thing we’re told to avoid.

Which leads directly to ruts of shame.

Every morning, we vow to take a different route. But by evening, we veer back to the same old path.

Our accuser spits and screams and paralyzes us, blaming us for being stuck.

By 3 a.m., we begin to believe him. We’ll never amount to anything.

We’re sick of waking up on empty.

We’re tired of trying to do what’s right and not quite getting there.

Life’s literally passing us by while we wait for roadside assistance.

Lord Jesus, take the wheel! Help us find a better way.

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

To get to where you want to go, aim for Jesus.

Take your eyes off the problem; focus on your Savior’s voice.

Your Teacher knows you, loves you, and wants you to grow. He’s with you till the end, guiding you through every twist and turn in the road.

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (Isaiah 30:21)

Jesus’s voice is gentle, patient, and full of compassion.

His voice is the sound of peace and promise.

Telling you there’s no condemnation.

Saying, Honey, you’re free.

Let’s go.

Take a deep breath, buckle up your faith, and shift into the gear of grace.

It’s the power you need for this long and bumpy road.

Keep your eyes on Jesus, and before you know it, you’ll begin to move in the right direction.

The world says, Watch that pothole!

But Jesus says, Come to Me.

Since Jesus is our new destination, we’re not gonna let a few potholes get in our way.
