FIGHTING BOREDOM IN YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE: Adventure Begins Today
My Christian life used to be downright boring. My childhood aspirations to make a big difference in the world seemed to pass me by.
Until I realized I was a secret agent.
Now even "007" James Bond's got nothing on me.
His orders came from the British Intelligence agency; I'm on a mission from God.
As disciples of Jesus, we're not exempt from His order to go into all the world and share the Good News.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is a matter of eternal life or death. Your assignment will take you out of your comfort zone, but this world's clock is ticking.
It's time we start living courageously in the middle of our ordinary lives.
We don't have to climb skyscrapers or leap canyons to deliver God's message.
Just exchange your agenda for His before you step out the door. When you do, you'll develop x-ray vision for the little things that matter to God's own heart.
Every moment counts in these minute secret missions, so be quick to be kind.
His voice will guide you every step of the way.
"See that young mother struggling with the stroller? Hold the door. Tell her she's doing a great job."
"Hand this barista a ten-dollar bill; tell her to keep the change."
"Notice the man behind you? Give him your coffee. He's late for a job interview and doesn't have time to wait."
When you think the assignment is over, you'll receive one more crucial command.
"Wait. Turn around. Go back and tell that man that Jesus loves him."
Though the risk of looking foolish lurks around the corner, you trust that Voice and do it.
Faith like this stays alert and ready for action. You might never know the impact of those simple gestures. Maybe that momma needed encouragement, that barista struggled to pay rent, or your coffee sparked someone's first prayer in years.
Acts of kindness in Jesus's name aren't random—they're strategic kingdom assignments that God orchestrated for you to complete long before you were born.
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10
God designed every encounter, every unexpected moment, even the annoying delays, to set the stage for His love to break into someone's story at exactly the most crucial moment.
Only in Heaven will the Master's plan be fully revealed.
Jesus will pin on the honors, which we'll all promptly lay down at His feet.
The gripping story will be told in Heaven's hall for ages to come—how God used "little old you" and "little old me" to make an epic difference.
Every secret agent's greatest mission is the one we’re living right now. The most exciting moments of our life may be the little kindnesses we share along the way.
So, be strong and courageous. Begin to live the adventurous life of faith today.
